The XIT Museum is located across from the Dallam County Courthouse in Dalhart Texas. The museum has several displays depicting early pioneer life in Dalhart. Exhibit topics range from wildlife and dairy farming to the famous XIT Ranch. The museum houses an extensive photographic, negative and document collection on the Dallam and Hartley county area.
The XIT Museum contains exhibits on the XIT Ranch and ranching equipment, wagons and several period rooms including a wedding Chapel. The museum also hosts changing exhibits on various collections of hats, guns, cameras and other historical items.
Our newly renovated Art Gallery features different artists exhibiting throughout the year. Extensive photographic and document archives, microfilm of newspapers dating to the late 1800’s and various other records provide research information upon request.
The XIT Museum, sponsored by the Dallam-Hartley County Historical Association, also serves as a learning tool for area schools as well as a chronicle for other area points of interest such as the Kiowa and Rita Blanca National Grasslands, The Rita Blanca Lake State Park and the annual XIT Rodeo and Reunion held the first long weekend in August of each year.
The XIT Museum is open from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Tuesday through Saturday and is closed on major holidays. Admission is free, but donations are always welcomed and appreciated.
